Tourism Numbers Fluctuate, But Won’t Affect Overall Arrivals, Says Minister

While the figures for tourist arrivals for the first half of 2019 show that there was an overall increase over last year, There have been a few months that have shown some fluctuations; but those inconsistencies are not expected to record an overall decrease over last year’s numbers, according to Tourism Minister Manuel Heredia, who blamed the drop in arrivals on global trends.

There have been a few months that have shown some fluctuations; but those inconsistencies are not expected to record an overall decrease over last year’s numbers, according to Tourism Minister Manuel Heredia, who blamed the drop in arrivals on global trends.

For the first half of 2019, there was an overall 6% increase in overnight tourism over the same period last year, but there was a slight decrease of 1% in the month of June over that month last year.

Overnight cruise arrivals for the first six months recorded an overall 10.8% increase over the same period last year, but the month of May showed a 1.3% decrease and June showed an even lower number of tourists arrivals, falling by 25.6% over June of last year.
