A Challenge To The April 10th. Referendum Heard In The Supreme Court
April 01

Monday, April 1st. 2019
Early this morning the crowd began to gather near the eastern edge of the Battle Field Park in downtown Belize City, and by the time the courts opened at 9am there were hundreds of spectators gathered near the Supreme Court to witness the drama of the challenge to the April 10th. referendum.

Today attorneys representing the People’s United Party and the Government presented arguments before Chief Justice Kenneth Benjamin. While the CJ has stated that there is no time to argue the substantive case, which questions the constitutionality of going to the ICJ, the arguments today will determine whether an interim injunction delaying the Referendum may be granted.

That decision is now in the hands of our Chief Justice, Kenneth A Benjamin, and is considered by many legal luminaries to be one of the most serious constitutional challenge to be brought to the courts in many years.

As expected, the crowds will be at the Supreme Court on Wednesday April 3rd. when the CJ will announce his decision.
