The Belize Territorial Volunteers (BTV) successfully installed a plaque at the Gracias a Dios border marker in Southern Belize, despite the presence of the Guatemalan Armed Forces on their way to the site.

The expedition left Punta Gorda at 7:30 Saturday morning and got clearance from the Belize Defense Force (BDF) stationed at the Forward Operating Post along the Sarstoon River. About a minute into their boat ride down the Sarstoon, the Guatemalan Armed Force (GAF) pursued them and followed closely behind the Belizeans, but they did not stop.

On the trip was Robert Clinton, a Belizean American who encouraged Belizeans living abroad and everyone to express their concerns and be heard.

Orlando de la Fuente of the Northern Territorial Volunteers (NTV) shared that this trek was the second one that was made to the monument, because four years ago they went to attach the first plaque on the pillar but it was removed.

Wil Maheia of the Belize Territorial Volunteers lamented on the appearance of the area, commenting that 20 years ago when he started visiting the site, it was cleared away. Now, even with a BDF post just up the river, it is unkempt, compared to the Guatemalan side of the monument, which has picnic areas for visitors.
