As is customary when it comes to any plane that lands in any area of the country illegally, authorities claim they have no idea where it came from, what it carried or where its occupants and/or cargo ended up. In fact, authorities have hesitated to even speculate that the cargo carried by the planes could be drugs.

During a press briefing on Thursday, August 16th, Head of the National Crimes Investigation Branch ACP Joseph Myvett revealed that at around 8:30 a.m. on the previous day, Police were summoned to an area South of Blue Creek Village where they came across the remains of a burnt twin engine aircraft. Myvett noted that the aircraft was completely burnt with the exception of the wings and tail where three visible identification numbers, PR1, were observed.

The aircraft was found on a registered airstrip in the Tres Leguas area, approximately one kilometer away from the Belize/Mexico Border. The scene was processed, the area searched but nothing was found. Nor was anyone found in the area.

When reporters asked Myvett if there is any reason to believe that the plane’s cargo was drugs, Myvett replied that he would not venture into any guesses without the evidence to support such.

We also asked Myvette whether any police station was in the vicinity and he noted that the nearest police station was two miles away from Blue Creek Village. Police are investigating.
