The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has shortlisted the companies whose proposals have made it through round two of its screening process.
At a press conference on Friday, PUC Chairman, John Avery explained how the selection process went. He said four bidders with proposals for five projects and meeting the firm capacity requirements, and one for the intermittent capacity are the companies for consideration.
For the intermittent category, “the bidder selected is BAPCOL (Blair Atoll Power Company Limited) and the for the firm capacity, its GSR, SREL, with respect to Challilo 2 and upper Swasey, Santander (SS Energy) with respect to their co-generation project and BAPCOL with respect to their existing generator.”
Initially more than 20 bidders had submitted proposals for 11 projects to complement Belize’s national capacity of power generation.
The companies will enter into negotiations with the Belize Electricity Limited (BEL).
