Westrac Stingers win SMART Agric canoe race

The Westrac Stingers comprising Hener and Erwin Cruz, and Jerry Cante won the second annual SMART River Challenge canoe race from the Iguana Creek Bridge on the Belize River to the National Agricultural and Trade Show Grounds on Saturday, May 3.

They clocked 2:06:00 to win the $150 first prize in the male category.
The Ziprider canoe paddled by Jerry Rhaburn, Wilberto Daniels and Chris Guydis were seven seconds behind to claim the $75 second prize in the male category.

The Belize Bank Bulldogs of Armin Lopez and Amado Cruz, finished fourth overall in 2:10:00, third in the male category.
The Gerber/Guana team of Eric Cano, Francisca Cruz Phaender and Erwin Cruz, sponsored by Judd and Kelly Gerber, finished fifth overall in 2:10:50 to win the $150 first prize in the mixed category.

The second mixed team, “Wat Eva Boys and a Girl” of Sergio Lopez, Jayda Guydis and Jesus Linares sponsored by D & D Consultancy, was sixth overall in 2:12:12 to win the $75 second prize and a medal.

The second Intramural team, the Turdz of Elvis and Glenford Sutherland and Hector Bejerano, sponsored by Raymond Woods clocked 2:14:40 to finish seventh overall and win a $75 prize and a medal.

The “Weh Dem Deh” team of Miguelito Guerra, Jesus Cruz and Daniel Mena, sponsored by the BDF and Kubuli Beer, clocked 2:17:00 to finish eighth overall and win the pleasure division and a $150 prize.
The Tropic Air team of Jeffery Seguro, Martin Gideon and Matthew Mask won the Junior category in 2:18:00, finishing ninth overall.

The second junior team, AMF, comprised of Carlos Linares, Felix Neal and Alexander Cruz, were 10th overall in 2:21:00 to win a $75 prize.
The “Grumpy Ol’ Men”: Victor Seguro, Stanley Bailey and Jerry Wilkens, sponsored by Caribbean Engineering, placed 11th overall in 2:22:00 to win the $150 prize in the Masters division.

The second Pleasure canoe, the Print Belize team of Kylan Hyde, Rudolph Gentle and Francisco Perez finished 12th overall in 2:29:30.
The “Serve the People” team, made up of the Usher Sisters, Jane and Bobby Dee and Ruth Cruz, sponsored by Hon. Said Musa, clocked 2:35:00 to finish 13th overall and win the Female category.

The winners of each category received a $150 prize and a trophy, while all second place winners in each category received $75 prize and individual medals. Third place winners also received medals.
