Verdes FC of Benque Viejo del Carmen will need to exploit the home-field advantage when they host FC Belize for game two of the playoffs of the Belikin Cup football tournament at the Marshalleck Stadium on Saturday night, January 25, as the city boys held Verdes scoreless draw in the first semifinal at the MCC grounds on Sunday, January 19.
Marlon Meza and Gilroy “Bredda” Thurton led the Verdes’ offensive supported by Ricahrd “Cheety” Jiimenez and Orlando “Lichy” Jimenez on the wings and Shamir Pacheco and Norman “Tilliman” Pipersburgh at midfield, but they made little impression on the FC Belize defense of Shannon Flowers, Leon “Chow” Cadle, Matthew Leal and Kristian Perez.
The Verdes’ offensive won some corner kicks, but goalkeeper Glenford Chimilio proved up to the challenge.
Jarret Davis and Devaugn Zuniga were also trying to get the home eleven on the scoreboard, with the help of Jorge Alexman, Kevin Lino, and Mark “Kelo” Leslie and Ryan Gill at midfield, but the Veredes defenders, Humberto Requeña, Victor Cruz, San Mendez and Everald Trapp, shut them out the entire game.
Verdes refreshed its offensive line to replace Meza and Pipersburgh, while FC Belize introduced Fermiane Foster, Avian “Chi-chis” Crawford and Stephen Baeza, but the long whistle sounded to a scoreless stalemate.
