The girls of Nazarene High School and Ladyville Technical High School are leading the Belize City High Schools Softball Competition and will face off against each other when the playoffs under the Paige system begin at Rogers Stadium in Belize City on Monday, March 3.
The girls of Gwen Lizarraga High School and Wesley College are the third and fourth ranked seeds in the playoffs and will face off when the playoffs continue on Tuesday, March 4.
Undefeated Nazarene High girls got the easy bye to their sixth win when the girls of Anglican Cathedral College were a no -show for their game on Saturday, February 22. They also posted their fifth win 8-3 over the Gwen Liz girls on Friday, February 21.
Sadie Pook, Erleen Cassasola, and the Longsworth twins, Shanice and Shantell scored in the first inning, and Shanice, pitcher Elma Wade, Lenneisha Gillett and Princella Samuels scored in the second to lead 8-0.
Shandine Wallace and pitcher Ashley Lucas scored for Gwen Liz in the top of the fourth inning and Vivica Young scored a third run in the top of the fifth.
The Ladyville Tech girls’ only loss was to the Nazarene girls. They enter the playoffs with five victories; walloping the Anglican Cathedral girls 23-1 by mercy rule in three innings last Thursday, February 27. The Ladyville girls collected five hits off pitcher Ashley Alarcon, who also walked nine batters and struck out three.The ACC infield made five errors.
Jay Gideon led the Ladyville attack scoring four runs, while pitcher Amber Wade, Devonie Reyes and Kamela Mendez scored three each. Sherelee Nicholson, Jalecia Jones, Alma Flowers, Nika Ezwena and Kenisha Ferguson each scored two runs. Only Leanne Davis scored for ACC.
The Ladyville girls also walloped the Wesley College girls 12-2, downed the girls of St. Catherine’s Academy 25-0 on Friday, February 21 and hammered the Pallotti girls 16-6 on Wednesday, February 19.
The Gwen Liz girls advanced to the playoffs with four wins, hammering the St. Catherine’s girls 19-4 by mercy rule in three innings last Friday, February 28. They collected eight hits off the pitching of Kendice Armstrong, who also walked nine batters, striking out two.
The SCA diamond made nine errors, allowing Roslyn Smith, pitcher Ashley Lucas, Tyra Moriera and Jahshema Saunders to score three runs each, while Jerlene Bowden, Ashtynne Coote and Shandine Wallace each scored two runs.
The Gwen Liz girls also overcame the Wesley girls 10-0 last Monday. Pitcher Ashley Lucas scored three runs, and gave up only one hit as she struck out 10 batters, while the Gwen Liz girl collected five hits off the pitching of Brianna Meighan, who also walked three batters, while the Wesley diamond made four errors.
The Wesley College girls qualified to the playoffs with three victories; walloping the Pallotti girls 20-1 last Friday. They collected 10 hits off the pitching of Marlette Martinez, who also walked eight batters, while the Pallotti diamond made 14 errors, allowing Ayla Franklin, Kristy Terry, and Meighan to score three runs each. The Wesley girls had also outlasted the St. Catherine’s girls: 20-15 last Wednesday.
