Guardian Bombers lead men’s softball finals 2-0

By William Ysagirre The Guardian Bombers are one win away from clinching the 2013 championship . They are leading 2-0 in the finals of the Belize City Men’s Softball Competition which continued at Roger’s Stadium on Wednesday and Friday nights, December 4-6.
The Bombers won 19-12 over the Oceana Strikers in the first finals on Wednesday, December 4. They led 4-0 when Carlyon Flores, Shaquille Moody, Jerome Moir and Milton Flores scored in the top of the first inning.
Only Floyd Flowers Jr. scored for the Strikers in the bottom of the first, and Shaquille extended the Bombers’ lead to 5-1 when he scored in the top of the second inning.
Striker pitcher Konrad Gonzalez struck out four batters and they tied the ball game to lead 6-5 after Steven Moody and Jose Itza scored in the bottom of the second, and Marconi Leal, Rayan Rowland and Itza scored in the bottom of the third.
Bombers regained the lead 11-6 when Carlyon, Shaquille, Moir, Milton, Shane Williams and Nick Fernandez scored in the top of the fourth, while the Strikers trailed 10-11 after Floyd Jr, Lindsford Myvette, Marconi, and Steve Moody scored in the bottom of the fourth.
The Bombers extended their lead when Carlyon, Shaquille, Shane Williams and Brian “Yellowman” Audinette scored in the top of the fifth and Carlyon Shaquille, Moir, Milton and Shane scored in the top of the fifth.
Only Leal and Rowland scored for the Strikers in the bottom of the fifth and Milton Flores struck out 10 batters, giving up no more runs in the bottom of the sixth to win 19-12 by mercy rule.
The Bombers also won 12-7 in the second final on Friday, December 6. Carlyon and Shaquille scored in the top of the first, but the Strikers led 5-2 when Itza, Leon Seguro, Anthony Blair, Myvette and Bruce Hilton scored in the bottom of the first.
They led 7-1 when Leal and Floyd Jr scored in the bottom of the second, but Milton scored in the top of the third and the Bombers tied the ball game, leading 8-7 when Carlyon, Shaquille, Milton, Moir and Shane Williams scored in the top of the fourth. Shaquille, Milton and Fernandez extended the lead to 11-7 in the top of the fifth and Fernandez scored again in the top of the seventh to seal the 12-7 victory.
All games were rained out last month. The championship series will be concluded when the weather and field conditions permit.
