First ever FIFA 1-Star-approved synthetic field to be completed by year’s end

By Marion Ali, Staff Reporter

The first ever stadium with a FIFA 1-Star-approved synthetic turf and perimeter warm up track is expected to be ready for use by the end of this year.

Director of the Belize Infrastructure Limited (BIL) Christy Mastry told the Reporter this week that the reconstructed Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, currently in its sixth month of construction, is undergoing extensive civil works and already has a specialized irrigation system in place “with a complex drainage network installed”. She added that the final turf carpet is being laid, a project that will be completed over the next three weeks.

Mastry says the entire project costs $3.5 million, and the stadium will include seating for 1200 persons, VIP locker facilities, a media box, and proper lighting for Champions League qualifying competitions.
