Camalote Blazers win 1st Miley Garcia softball championship finals

1The Camalote Blazers won 1-0 over Roaring Creek Grace Kennedy in the first game of the championship finals of the  2013 Miley Garcia Women’s Softball Competition organized by the Cayo Softball Association at the Denbeigh Fuller Stadium in Camalote on Sunday, September 8.

The Grace Kennedy batters collected five hits off Camalote’s pitcher Francine Salazar, who struck out four batters and walked one. The Camalote fielders made one error, but Grace Kennedy left six runners on base and scored no runs.

2The Camalote Blazers collected five hits off Roaring Creek’s Leyandra Guy, who struck out one batter and walked two. Grace Kennedy made two errors, allowing Francine Salazar to score the winning run in the fourth inning, even though Camalote left eight runners on base,.

The Esperanza Wolverines and the Ontario Rebels were to have played the consolation game for third place, but it was postponed due to a death among the players’ family.

The second game of the finals will be played at the Denbigh Fuller Stadium on Sunday, September 15th. Both the champions and the sub-champions will represent the Cayo District in the national softball championship tournament scheduled for the weekend of September 27-29, at the Roger’s Stadium in Belize City.
