Belize Bank Bulldogs lead firms basketball

sp2The undefeated Belize Bank Bulldogs and Atlantic Bank are leading the Belize District firms’ basketball competition, each with three victories as the tournament continued at Bird’s Isle in Belize City on Friday and Saturday nights, August 9-10.

Marcel Orosco scored 23 pts, as he led the Belize Bank to a 85-41 victory over the PUC Regulatahz on Saturday. Troy Gabb added 20 pts, and Terrique Gabb scored 18 pts more, while Divaun Williams, Chris McGann and James Gentle added six points each. It was the PUC’s third consecutive loss, and Andrew “Jewboy” Robateau led the Regulatahz with 12 pts.

Claudio Leal added eight more, while Raymond Charley added seven points and Kenrick Munnings tossed in five.

Karim Thompson had scored 18 pts as he led BWS to their first victory: 55-42 over the Heritage Bank Heatz last Friday. BWS’ Lindbergh “Prince” Graham and Jamir Enriquez each scored 11pts with Graham snagging seven boards, they led 13-8 in the first quarter and 26-17 at intermission. Charles Armstrong Jr. added six points and Godwin Bowen another four as BWS led 36-30 in the third quarter and Raheem Staine had three.

Kurt “Chengo” Burgess and Felix Martinez led Heritage with 13 pts each, Burgess also grabbing 12 boards, while Devon Defour tossed in 10 pts and five boards.

Atlantic Bank also celebrated their third consecutive victory: 71-58 over Readycall on Friday. Evan Rene led the bankers with 20 pts, eight boards while Readycall’s Josiah Brown had also hit a 3-pointer for 13 pts as Ready Call led 13-10 in the first quarter.

sp3Ervin “Poty” Orozco and Dave Apolonio added 13pts each, Apolonio sinking three 3-pointers to take over the lead 25-24 at intermission. Keith Sutherland added six points and four boards, and Brandon Castillo had five points, four boards to lead 46-40 by the end of the third quarter.

Readycall’s Hubert Baptist scored 10pts, nine boards, while George Smith tossed in eight points, six boards and Glenford Bennett added seven. Kareem Myvett hit a long 3-pointer as he chipped in six points, three boards.

Tyrone Myvett scored 22 pts as he led Courts Belize to their second victory: 66-49 over Bowen & Bowen’s Sprite in Friday’s nightcap. Fidel Blair added 13 pts, three boards as they led 17-15 in the first quarter.

Deon Symns rallied Sprite’s counterattack with 18 pts, and Michael Staine added 14pts, nine boards to take a slim lead 29-28 at intermission. COURTS’ Delroy Caliz scored 15pts, six boards, while Leroy Gentle added 10pts, nine boards to regain the lead 50-41 by the end of the third quarter, and Rennan Pandy tossed in six points and 13 boards for their win. Sprite’s Troy Williams scored 12 pts, two boards.

The Customs Department enjoyed their second victory 67-61 over the Belize City Council last Saturday night. Kevin Lorenzo led Customs with 29 pts and Winston “Air Jun” Pratt added 22 pts, while Ephrain Phillips tossed in 10 pts. Devon Garcia added four points, and Ludrick Beeks chipped in a basket. Kenroy Usher had led CitCo with 14pts, while Densford Bevans added 10pts, and Leon “Bigs” Williams and Greg Mahler tossed in seven each. Cordel Gonzalez Jr added nine.

Ports Belize Ltd are also undefeated, Vince “Postman” Estrada drained in six 3-pointers for 22 pts as he led Ports to a 79-75 victory over Central Health. Lennox Bowman added 22pts, Ian “AC” Augustine scored 15 pts and Kent Franklin had eight. Warren Garcia tossed in five points while Charles Armstrong Sr. chipped in three and Jason Wade scored a basket.

Central Health’s Neil Nicholson also hit four 3-pointers as he led with 23 pts, while Wilfred Richards added 14pts. Steven Wade scored 10pts, Lonnie Trapp added nine and Klinsman Williams chipped in six. The tournament continues at Bird’s Isle on Friday night, August 16.
