Barney Brown of the Scotiabank team won the “A” category while Jim Scott of the Santino’s team took the “B’ category race and Salvador Alvarado of the Zitro team won the “C” category, when the Weekend Warriors held its series of races on the Philip Goldson and George Price Highways on Sunday, March 17.
Barney Brown clocked 1:59:01 on his 47-mile ride from the Crooked Tree junction on the Philip Goldson Highway via the Boom Hattieville bypass road to finish at Leslie’s Imports on the George Price Highway in Belize City to take the first prize and trophy.
David Pollard, of the BCB/F.T. Williams team, was second; Warren Coye of the Santino’s team was third; and Kenneth Butler, of the BWS team, rode into fourth place.
Wilbert Jones of the Digicell 4G team was fifth; Coye’s teammate, Ernest “Tangalang” Thurton, was sixth; and Colin Maheia of the Horizon team was seventh. Pollard’s teammate Marlon Swift was eighth and Jones’ teammate Jack Sutherland was ninth.
Jim Scott took the “B” category race over the same route in 2:09:10, while his teammate Santino “Chief” Castillo was second, and Daniel Cano of the M&M Engineering team was third. Dean Boyce and Maurice Kelly, both of BCB/F.T. Williams team, were fourth and fifth.
Salvador Alvarado of the Zitro team won the “C” category race from the Maskall junction on the Philip Goldson Highway via the Boom Hattieville bypass road to Leslie’s Imports.
He won the first prize and trophy. Ronald Meighan of Medina’s House of Jewelry team was second, and Manuel Esquiliano of the Truckers Posse was third. Meighan’s teammate Nelson Zayden was fourth.
Chris Berry of the BNE team was fifth and Valentine Sosa of Truckers was sixth, and Ian Abraham of NFC was seventh. Wayne Arnold of BCB/F.T. Williams team was eighth, Ryan Rivero of the Digicell 4G was ninth, and Alvarado’s teammate, Sean Duncan rounded out the top 10.
In other cycling news, the annual junior Cross Country Classic organized by the Interim Committee of the Belize Cycling Association, from the San Jose Succotz ferry to Leslie’s Imports in Belize City is scheduled for Sunday, March 24.
