Police have successfully held another in a series of family/social days in the troubled areas of Belize City to quell the level of bloodshed that has been plaguing our streets.
Since 9 a.m. on Sunday, youths from the Caesar Ridge, Yarborough, Kraal Road and Faber’s Road and surrounding areas and their families turned out in the hundreds to socialise and, where necessary, mend fences with rivals through sports.
The event, spearheaded by Senior Superintendent Chester Williams, provided an avenue for the youths and their families to interact over food, nonalcoholic drinks, and basketball games, which ended in prizes shared with them.
Williams, in describing what the event aims to do, commented:”This is a part of [the] Eastern Division South community policing programme, geared at bridging the gap between us.”
The veteran police officer has also been trying to bring the members of the George Street community to partake in a similar event, but that effort has so far not been succeasful so far.
