Taiwan’s President Ma Ying Jeou to pay official visit to Belize

By Marion Ali, Assistant Editor

President Ma Ying Jeou of Taiwan is set to pay an official visit to Belize this month, as he completes his last term in office.

President Ma’s visit will take place on March 16 and 17, as part of a farewell tour to the United States, Belize and Guatemala.

This will be the second time that President Ma will visit Belize, as he makes way for incoming President, Tsai Ing-Wen, Taiwan’s first female president.

Belize will be the last stop for the president, who begins his tour in the US before traveling to Guatemala before wrapping up in Belize. While here, he will pay a courtesy call on Governor General, Sir Colville Young, and Prime Minister Dean Barrow.

The president’s entourage will include high-ranking officers and a press corps from Taiwan.

Meanwhile, President Tsai Ing-Wen takes over office in May.
