Supreme court grants bail to dead teen’s step parents; San Pedranos picket courthouse

By Marion Ali, Assistant Editor

The Supreme Court has granted bail to the step parents of Fay Lin Cannon, the Chinese girl who was discovered dead earlier this month at her house in San Pedro. While the bail proceeding took place, a group of San Pedro residents carried out a picket across from the courthouse, objecting to the granting of the bail.

Justice Denis Hanomansingh offered the couple bail this morning for $10,000,
David and Anke Doehm, whose attorneys, Dickie Bradley (for David) and Senior Counsel Ellis Arnold (for Anke) had filed to the Supreme Court last week for bail. The Doehms were remanded to prison last week on a joint charge of ‘Cruelty to a Child.’

The protesters, who carried the Belizean flag and placards marked “Justice for Fay”, called for a thorough investigation into the death of the 13-year-old girl, who they allege was the victim of physical abuse.
