The Belize Cancer Society is inviting all Belizeans to support cancer patients in Belize and around the world, by participating in its annual Cancer Walk, scheduled for Saturday, May 30.

The walk, which leaves from Ladyville at 5:00 a.m., is held to raise funds to continue the vital services the Belize Cancer Society offers to cancer patients and their families, as well as cancer survivors.

Dianne Finnegan, vice president of the BCS, explained that the walk is a symbol of solidarity for those who are living with cancer, as well as those who have gone before.

“The walk is to show that we care, “ Finnegan said, “and when you buy a T-shirt, its not about the shirt you’re wearing but rather about where your donation goes.”

Heather Reneau, senior administrator for BCS, explained that the cancer society offers counseling and support services, assists some patients with transportation costs and others with financial assistance for treatment, all of which is supported by funds gathered from the walk.

There will be two busses taking participants to the starting point. Busses leave at 3:45 and 4:45, with pickup points at the Shell Gas Station on Cemetery Road, Pound Yard Bridge, Coney Drive, and Brodies on the Phillip Goldson Highway.
