The Belize Police Department is seeking public assistance in t finding 15-year-old Nethania Acosta who was reported missing by her mother on Sunday. But Nathania has been active on the social media since the day she was last seen.
According to police, Karen Acosta, of #7 Poinsettia Street, told them that she has not seen Nethania since last Friday around 7:30 in the morning. Nethania had left her home in the morning and didn’t return.
Nethania is described as being of Creole descent, with brown skin, brown almond shaped eyes, of medium build with shoulder length straight, black hair, a round face. She is about five feet four inches tall and weighs around 140 pounds.
She has a piercing in her nose and was last seen wearing a green and yellow dress with the word ‘Jamaica’ written on it, carrying a brown knap sack with a black purse.
And while her mother is concerned about her safety, Nethania has been active on Facebook, posting several pictures and status updates indicating that she may have just left home to be with friends. In one post from August 14th, the day she was last seen by her mother, her status update read, “pissed off”. In another post dated the 15th, she is seen in a picture with a group of friends at a party.
According to police, they have not seen the posts on Facebook and have not been in touch with the mother since the initial report was made.
Police Press Officer Raphael Martinez did say, however, that Nethania was last seen with a back-pack and it appears as if she does not want to be found. He added that often time when children run away from home and return to their parents, a subsequent report is not made to police to inform them the child has returned.
Anyone who has seen Nethania or has information concerning her whereabouts is encouraged to contact the nearest police station.
