Police are investigating two fires that took place just an hour apart – one in Ladyville and the other in Orange Walk.

The first blaze occurred just before midnight on Wednesday at the second entrance to Burrell Boom village, where police say they saw two boat moulds on fire, and two burnt tires and a bottle with gasoline on top of the boat moulds.

The two imcomplete vessels – one worth $150,000 and the other valued at $60,000 were completely destroyed.

Police are looking for a suspected arsonist in connection with the incident.

The second fire occurred at about 1:15 this morning in San Jose village, Orange Walk, where police saw a board with zinc kitchen and a bodega, made of the same materials, engulfed in flames.

Ruperto Chi, 78, of the same village reported that a noise outside the structure woke him up just before 1:00 a.m.. When he got up and made checks, he saw the building on fire. Chi said he believes that a fire hearth left lit was responsible for the fire.
