Police investigate murder and other crimes

Police are investigating a number of violent crimes that occurred over the extended 10th weekend across the country.

Just before 9:00 on Sunday night, police were called out to Buena Vista village, Cayo where they found the body of Jose Ulyses Sibrian, 22, a Salvadoran who lived in Buena Vista. Sibrian’s body had stab wounds to the left side of the chest and side.

Police say Sibrian was socializing at a local bar and got embroiled in an argument with another man, which resulted in the stabbing.

Police are seeking the man pending investigations.

In Belize City, sometime around 10:00 Sunday night, Darwin Martinez, 26, a graphic designer of Mayflower Street was shot in the left upper back and left upper chest.

Police say Martinez was sitting in the front passenger seat of a black Saturn car along with his uncle who was driving the vehicle.

As they were passing Ebony Street and turning into Sibun Street someone fired shots which struck Martinez. He is in a stable condition.

Police have no suspects.

In Belmopan, police say that at around 1:10 this morning they were summoned to the San Martin area, where they saw Concordio Cucul, 28, of Belmopan with a large cut on the throat.

Cucul is listed in a critical condition, and police are seeking further information into what led to the apparent chopping.
