NEMO provides homes for Albert fire victims

By Marion Ali, Assistant Editor

Fire victims in the Albert constituency this week received new homes provided by the Ministry responsible for the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO).

On Monday, Minister responsible for NEMO, Edmond Castro handed out the homes to three families who lost their homes in the Conch Shell Bay area last October. Accompanying Castro was Albert Area Representative, Tracy Taegar-Panton, who lobbied for the homes on behalf of the fire victims.

The 15 by 15-foot wooden homes are set on concrete blocks and fitted with hurricane-proof windows, and are complete with partitions.

While in the process, the two government officials also visited Arilee Scott, the grandmother who lost her house on Prince Street last week Wednesday morning to a fire that started on a bed on the upper flat of the wooden building. Castro and Panton assured Scott and her family that NEMO will assist the family with rebuilding their home shortly.
