NEMO activates operation centres in light of approaching storm

By Marion Ali, Assistant Editor

The National Emergency Management Organizations says its operations centers (EOC’s) have been convening countrywide since this morning, in light of the threat from the tropical system approaching our area.

NEMO says that Emergency Operations Centers have met in every region of the country to assess the threat from the tropical system and fine-tune plans for effective response if the storm should impact any part of the country.

A tropical stoem watch is in effect for the Belize District, which includes Belize City and the cayes, as well as parts of the Orange Walk and Corozal districts.

The strong tropical wave continues to show signs of development as it moves west-north westward at 10-15mph and is expected to become Tropical Storm Franklin overnight.

NEMO says it will continue, in collaboration with the National Meteorological Service, to monitor the system and issue official advisories as necessary. It advises the general public to keep informed and to stay alert.
