This week, Moses “Shyne” Barrow, son of Prime Minister Dean Barrow, announced his aspiration to run for politics in the Mesopotamia electoral division.
Barrow, told the media that he intends to offer himself up for candidacy once his uncle, current Mesop Area Representative, Michael Finnegan, retires.
Barrow has already begun his campaign ground work, going through the community and meeting the residents, which he says is a part of the relationship-building process. He added that he has Finnegan’s blessing in his political aspirations.
United Democratic Party Mesop Committee Chairman, Rodney Lord also confirmed Barrow’s intention to run in the area.
The Reporter made several attempts to reach Barrow for comment, but he did not respond.
Moses “Shyne” Barrow, born Jamal Michael Barrow, was deported back to Belize in 2009 after serving nine years in prison in the United States for attempted murder.
The rapper turned politician has signed with two major record labels, namely Bad Boy Entertainment and Def Jam Records. He also had aspirations of signing to Cash Money Records; however to date he has not.
Shyne produced two studio albums, entitled “Shyne”, which debuted in 2000, selling over 900,000 copies; and the other, “Godfather Buried Alive”, which was released in 2004 and sold over 400,000 copies.
Shyne has also been appointed as Belize’s Music Ambassador, and has represented the country at the World Music Expo (WOMEX) in October.
