Miss World Belize, Jasmin Rhamdas, who has been in Sanya, China for more than a month representing the country received an honorary recognition as the Image Ambassador for the island of Pingtan in the Fijian Province this week.
Pingtan Island is promoted by the Miss World Organization as, “a place of incredible beauty, a haven for photographers and Miss World Contestants visiting various nature sites including its pristine beaches.”
The Pingtan Comprehensive and Experimental Area Management Committee selected Miss World Belize as the representative of the international tourism island from among 113 contestants after successfully displaying her cultural costume depicting the famous Belize Blue Hole. The committee plans to use 19-year-old Rhamdas’ image to further the tourism industry of Pingtan.
Chairman and National Director of Miss World Belize Ltd., Michael Arnold said: “This achievement has set a new milestone for the country of Belize in pageantry. That made us proud to be ranked first place for the first time in any event or category at Miss World International Contests.”
Proudly representing Belize, Rhamdas is on the final run of the event, competing with the top 25 contestants from countries such as Australia, France, India, Jamaica, Lebanon, Mexico, Russia, South Africa and Venezuela for the category of Miss World Multi-media.
Belizeans can help Rhamdas win by voting for her daily until the pageant finishes on December 19th via the Miss World App, which can be downloaded on mobile cell phones. Also, fans can show their support by tuning in to E-Television network where the finals will be televised live to more than a billion viewers worldwide.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wilfred Elrington; Minister of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture, Patric Faber; along with the recently appointed Minister of State under that portfolio, Elodio Aragon; and Minister of Tourism Manuel Heredia have been duly notified of Miss World Belize’s achievement.
Rhamdas is scheduled to return to Belize in time to celebrate New Years, on December 31st and plans to continue focusing on her Criminal Justice studies.
