The computer anti-virus pioneer, John McAfee, who is wanted for questioning as “a person of interest” in connection with the death of American Gregory Faull, has offered a $25,000 reward for the arrest of the true culprit.
McAfee announced the reward via an Internet blog on Monday, November 19.
He wrote, “I also needed to do my own investigation, since the police only seemed to be investigating my whereabouts.
“My safety is contingent on the truth being discovered. I today announced on NBC Television that I am offering a $25,000 reward for the capture of the person or persons responsible for Mr. Faull’s murder.”
McAfee has literally been thumbing his nose at police ever since he eluded them on Sunday, November 10, after Faull’s housekeeper found him lying dead in a pool of blood, with a shot to the back of his head.
He has been able to continue his running commentaries with international media through cell phones.
So far, no one from the Belize media has spoken to him since he has been on the lam.
McAfee has also been weaving a pattern of spurious claims about Belizean authorities and life in Belize, which has prompted Prime Minister Dean Barrow to describe him as “bonkers.”
In one of his colourful depictions, he states that enough people have died in Belize Police custody to fill a small U.S. town telephone directory.
Two days before Faull’s body was discovered, four of McAfee’s dogs were reportedly poisoned.
The dogs, however, did not die from the poison: McAfee ended their lives by shooting them in the head.
San Pedro Police exhumed the dead animals, cut off their heads and re-buried them headless.
According to Police Press Officer Raphael Martinez, police investigators needed the heads so as to extract the slugs to compare them with the slug found in Faull’s body in order to determine if they had been fired by the same gun.
McAfee boasts that he has written enough materials to keep his on-line blog running for a year.
He claims in his blog that he watched the police dig up the dogs, while he was in blackface disguise.
McAfee blogs that he once disguised himself as a drunken German tourist and another time he was a burritos salesman.
McAfee is believed to be on the run with one of his girlfriends, believed to be a 20-year-old girl from San Pedro.
