By Michelle Sutherland, Staff Reporter

A man who was shot in the head over seven weeks ago has died of the gunshot injury.

23-year-old Hammon Lemoth, a barber, succumed on Thursday morning.

Lemoth was cutting a client’s hair inside One Love barber shop on Central American Boulevard on May 23, when a gunman entered the establishment and fired nine shots in his direction. One of the bullets struck Lemoth in his head, shattered his skull and damaged his brain.

Doctors at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) conducted an emergency surgery to remove brain fragments and tissue, to allow the brain to receive oxygen, and Lemoth remained in a critical condition until earlier this month. He was discharged on July 8, but passed away at around 11:00 a.m., on July 13, after experiencing shortness of breath and other complications.

One of his relatives posted on social media that Lemoth was targetted by gang members in the area who had warned him against trimming their rivals.

The shooting has been upgraded to ‘murder’ and police are still looking for the shooter.

Lemoth was originally from Ontario village, Cayo and had recently moved to Belize City seeking employment.
