Keep your children close, Magistrate warns

A working mom has been ordered to pay a fine of $500.00 because the court found she had been negligent in allowing her 13 year- old son to be out on the street after 9 o’clock at night.

She could have been fined $1,500, or sent to prison, Magistrate Norman Rodriguez pointed out.
Sharhina Flowers explained that she works at night at the Sister Cecilia Home, and she left her 13 year-old son with her mom.

Sometime during the evening the boy’s father came and took him out, she explained.
