Harvest for Kids programme ready to bring in the crops

Belize Camping Experience (BCE) has set a date for the harvesting of corn grown by The Harvest for Kids Program.

Alexander Perez, member of Belize Camping Experience, announced that the harvesting will take place  on Saturday, October 6, at the Banana Bank field, and  on Thursday, October 11, at  the San Carlos field.

The initiative has had  broad  support from the public, particularly in the north where  volunteers have raised more than $11,000.00 for the project.

Saturday’s harvesting will use a number of combines on loan for this special work by farmers the area, and other farmers who support the cause.

Perez  told The Reporter that with the right support Belize can make history by harvesting the 20 acres  of corn in a matter of 12 minutes, using many donated harvesters to do the work.

Belize Camping Experience is a registered Christian non-profit organization conducting summer camps and follow-up programs for children in Belize  since 2006.

The focus of their work is to provide for children, especially those from high-risk south side areas of Belize City.

The harvesting of the corn represents the hard work and sacrifice of not only the farmers, but of the children as well.
