GOB held the official inauguration ceremony at the school compound in Altamira Village on Wednesday. The expansion project, valued at $1.2 million, included works for the primary school such as building three additional classrooms, a conference room, male and female lavatories for students and teachers, rehabilitating the fence for security measures, and construction of a reinforced concrete pre-school building.
“The School project is aimed at increasing access, and providing enhanced quality education for students in a more conducive learning environment in the northern district,” GOB said. “The completion of the school’s project will also benefit surrounding communities since both buildings can serve as hurricane shelters.”

GOB additionally gave training in multiple disciplines to teachers and parents in early childhood education, which the government highlighted as being of critical significance in relation to capacity building under the Human Resource Development sector.
GOB financed the project through a grant from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) under the Basic Needs Trust Fund, BNTF7’s Education & Human Resource Development Sector with counterpart funding from Government.
The Belize Social Investment Fund implemented the project.
