A wreath-laying tribute took place on Friday morning at the grave site of the late Father of the Nation, Rt. Honourable George Price to mark the fourth year since he passed away.
At the event, PUP Leader Francis Fonseca spoke of the man who led Belize from Self Government to Independence and who selflessly worked to develop Belize and improve the lives of Belizeans.
Fonseca quoted from speeches that the late Mr. Price made in the early 60’s when he spoke of the importance of attaining Self-Government and Independence. He also urged the students of Saint Martin de Porres Primary School and everyone else in attendance to follow in Mr. Price’s footsteps and to strive for better.
George Price died on September 19, 2011 and each year since his death, the day schools and some offices conduct activities to honour his legacy on what is called National Service Day.
In remembrance of this hero, some municipalities have also planned activities. In Orange Walk Town, the Town Board is organizing a Mass on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at the Gala Lounge; in Cayo West, community and PUP members will rehabilitate a recreational park in Succotz Village.
As a part of the PUP’s activities, the party’s Marshall’s, donated fans to two primary schools in Belize City.
