Former Commissioner of Income Tax Eric Eusey is the new director of the Financial Intelligence Unit.
According to a government release, Eusey assumed office on January 1, taking over from former Director Marilyn Williams whose five-year tenure ended in December 2013.
Eusey assumes office in the midst of the FIU’s high profile investigation into former deputy minister in the Ministry of Nationality and Immigration Elvin Penner’s involvement in a passport scandal.
Williams leaves to go into private legal practice with 50 cases for the FIU still pending.
The primary duty of the Director is to ensure the prompt implementation of the recommendations of the G7 Financial Action Task Force and the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force to combat money laundering and other financial crimes.
