The first Kareem Clarke Memorial, organized by a group of local journalists, will be held this Saturday at the BTL Park from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in memory of the late slain Kremandala reporter.
The event will feature an award ceremony for the winners of an essay competition, held earlier this month. The topic of the essay was: What is the nature of politics in Belize? How can I change it?
The deadline for submissions was November 12th and all entries were judged by a panel of tertiary-level instructors. The winners will be announced at the event and first, second and third prize winners will be presented with a laptop, a tablet and $500 in cash respectively. The first place winner will also read his or her essay publicly before the audience in attendance.
The second portion of the event will include entertainment from well-known artists including All God’s Sons, Chad Wade, Denise Castillo, Nello Playa, Positive Vibes and TR Shine. The final portion of the event entails a DJ tribute to Clarke, as he was an avid music fan.
The Kareem Clarke Memorial Fund, which was established in the wake of Clarke’s death, intends for the event to be held annually and proceeds from the fund-raiser will support the Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s St. Joseph primary school feeding program and the Dara feeding program.
