While many Belizeans celebrated the New Year at one function or the other, several women celebrated 2016 giving birth.
Reports are that the first baby for 2016, Nathan, was born in Correa’s clinic in Orange Walk town at around 1:23 a.m.
The first child to be born in Belize City, Aiden Alexander Rhys, was born at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH), weighing in at eight pounds, 14 ounces. Bridgette Rhys, 32, gave birth to baby Aiden at around 2:03 a.m. on January 1st. Rhys spent 18 hours in labour before delivering her son.
As a part of New Year’s tradition, the Santiago Castillo group of companies presented Rhys with a gift package, which included items such as Huggies diapers and Huggies wipes, Ovaltine and Dutch Lady milk.
Aisha Rudon, brand manager for SanCas, explained that the company does not provide any baby bottles in the package, in support of the KHMH’s breastfeeding drive, which calls on mothers to breastfeed their children for the first six months.
All the mothers who had given birth up to January 2nd, also received Johnson & Johnson products from Brodies, and one mother also received a cheque from the Belize City Lion’s Club for having given birth to the last baby born in 2015.
