A Hattiville resident, who is nine months pregnant, survived a road traffic accident on the Haulover Bridge this week.

Paramedics took 37-year-old Raquel Burke to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) on Wednesday evening, after her red Nissan X Terra SUV, crashed head first into a dump truck.

Reports are that Burke, who had mobility issues from a previous accident, was traveling from Ladyville to Belize City, when she lost control of the vehicle and collided to the dump truck.

The impact of the collision sent the vehicle flying to the left side of the bridge. The front of the vehicle was extensively damaged, however, Burke received only minor injuries to the face because the airbag deployed preventing major injury. She also reportedly suffers from back pain.

Sources say that at press time, she was at the maternity ward at the KHMH listed in stable condition. An ultrasound also revealed that her unborn baby showed no injury.

The dump truck driver, 33-year-old Christopher Gillett, of Burrel Boom Village, did not receive any injuries in the accident. The accident is the second to have taken place in the vicinity of the bridge for the month of February.
