Eternity Mass Band & Belizean Jewels win Carnival Queen & King

IMG_5892The Eternity Mass Band and the Belizean Jewels Band captured top honors when the National September Celebrations Carnival Committee hosted the Carnival King and Queen competition at  Roger’s Stadium in Belize City last Friday night, September 6.

Young Kaylin Williams had an attack of laryngitis and had almost lost her voice, but having participated in her seventh Carnival, she was ecstatic to have won the $5,000 first prize in the senior Queen competition in the Queen Fantasia costume of the Eternity Mass Band.

IMG_5895Vanessa Williams has been participating in Carnival for eight years and now in the Queen Heartha costume of Mother Nature’s Creations, she won the $3,500 second prize .

Shanina Merritt also of Mother Nature’s Creations, captured the $2,500 third prize with her Queen La Bella costume.

George Parks is participated in his fifth Carnival and was equally thrilled to win the $5,000 first prize in the Senior King Competition with his King Lionel costume of the Belizean Jewels Band.

Belizean Jewels’ Anthony Tucker has been participating in Carnival for the past 18 years, and he was happy to have won the $3,500 second prize in the Senior King contest with his costume “Morfin, Guardian of the Reef”.

King Harmen of Trenchtown Masqueraders took the $2,500 third prize.

Sunshine Masqueraders’ Queen Tatiana  won the $4,000 first prize, while their Queen Xatiea won the $3,000 second prize in the Junior Queen competition, while Queen Ixchel of Jump Street Posse took the $2,000 third prize.

Warren Smith of Jump Street Posse’s costume “King Charikanari” captured the $4,000 first prize of the Junior King contest. King Hades of the Sunshine Masqueraders took the $3,000 second prize, while King Agua of the Pickstock “Pick It Up” Crew won the $2,000 third prize for Junior King.
