BTL system failure

Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL) experienced an interruption in their system this week that caused BTL customers nationwide to lose calls, text messages, 4G and DSL services.

BTL Public Relations Officer, Lorena Martinez confirmed that BTL experienced some issues with their system early Wednesday morning, causing disruptions in customers’ calls and texts, while 4G and DSL Internet services were unavailable.

Martinez said BTL technicians became aware of the situation after the system malfunctioned and started working to resolve the issue right away. According to Martinez, by 10 a.m. Wednesday, all issues had been resolved and services had been normalized.

BTL has experienced several other system interruptions this year, including an issue with one of their power systems malfunctioning in June and BTL Internet services being hacked by foreign programmers prior to that.

BTL has since put measures in place to ensure the protection of its systems and customers in order to ensure uninterrupted services.
