Hotel representatives, travel agencies, car insurance agencies, restauranteurs and tour operators from Chetumal, Mahahual and Bacalar met in Belize on Wednesday at a tourism trade show to discuss possibilities for trade in that industry.
The objective was to encourage Belizean service providers to consider doing business in Mexico, a venture that Mexico’s Ambassador to Belize, Mario Velazquez Suarez said could be mutually beneficial to business people from both countries.
“The CANACO Servi-Tur, this Mexican organization of entrepreneurs in Mexico is inviting Belizeans to come to their premises in Mexico for making business in Mexico, selling Belizean products and services”, Velázquez said.
He added that while Belizeans shop in Mexico every weekend, Mexican hotels are trying to get more business from Belizeans. The ambassador said that toward this end, Mexican hoteliers are prepared to offer cheaper rates. On the flip side for Belize, Velázquez said that Mexicans traveling to Belize can also benefit from cheaper rates in tourism destinations such as San Pedro.
This week’s event was a follow-up to one held a month ago when the Chetumal Chamber of Commerce visited Belize to seek potential business ventures.
