Belizean youth leader and high school teacher, Kevin Forrester, will represent Belize at the Annual Curators Meeting, to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, from Friday to Tuesday, August 16-20, 2013.
Forrester, a Teacher a Wesley College and the National English Youth President of the English Assemblies of God churches in Belize, is the founding Curator of the Belize City hub for the Global Shapers Community.
He explained that the Global Shapers Community (GSC) is a network of hubs developed and led by exceptional young people who are ambitious about making a contribution to their respective communities. GSC owes a great deal of its ability to function to its Global community Partners: The Coca-Cola Company and Reliance Industries, as well as Regional Community Partners.
GSC is one of several multi-stakeholder communities at the World Economic Forum. Other communities include the Young Global Leaders, the Global Agenda Councils, and the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurs.
GSC’s leaders are youths between 20 and 30 years of age, who have a sincere desire to develop leadership potential towards serving society. To this end, hubs undertake local projects to improve their communities.
These young leaders, who have been given the suitable epithet “Shapers”, are highly motivated individuals who have a great potential for future leadership roles in society. They are selected on the basis of their achievements, leadership potential, and commitment to make a difference.
Through GSC, Shapers are provided with opportunities to connect with the worldwide network of Global Shapers, to network with other World Economic Forum communities, and to represent the voice of youth at World Economic Forum events. Shapers are united by a common desire to channel the members’ tremendous energy and enthusiasm into building a more peaceful and inclusive world.
“We are becoming increasingly aware that solutions to our global challenges must purposefully engage youth, at all levels – locally, regionally, nationally and globally. This generation has the passion, dynamism and entrepreneurial spirit to shape the future,” said Professor Klaus Schwab, the World Economic Forum’s founder and Executive Chairman.
Forrester explained to this paper that he is proud to be representing his Belizean youths at this upcoming conference and for his continued role in GSC. “As Founding Curator of the Belize City Hub, I see the need to be inspired and better equipped to carry out my motivational and supervisory roles here in Belize. I am enthusiastic about the tremendous possibilities that can arise from the exuberant energy of the Belizean youth. I am very optimistic about the positively impactful potential of Global Shapers Community on the Belizean society,” Forrester said.
He also issued a call to other Belizean youths to join GSC. “I see this partnership as an essential part of the solution to the various ails in our local communities. I therefore take this opportunity to invite Belizean Shapers to join me on this path of betterment,” he said. “I call upon committed and innovative young people from the entrepreneurial business sector, the dynamic educational sector, the active political sector, and even the creative cultural sector of Belizean society.”
