Belize is emerging as a top tourist destination for Indian travellers, according to data released by Trip Advisor’s Indian branch.

Tourism statistics show that cruise arrivals to the country continue, and according to Trip Advisor India’s Country Manager Nikhil Ganju, from January 1st to June 30th their website traffic indicated that interest in Belize and other destinations, including Brazil, Tokyo and Bhutan, is growing at a rapid pace.

According to the data, Ambergris Caye topped the list in the emerging destination category.

Ganju indicated that the number of Indians travelling has increased by 21 percent over the last year, a significant increase considering India’s population of 1.2 billion people and added that Asian cities account for the majority of top 20 Indian travel destinations.

The data also revealed that the boost in interest in Belize as a travel destination was due in part to a growing trend among Indian travellers who prefer options such as bed and breakfast accommodations, vacation rentals, outdoor activities and cultural attractions.

The Caribbean Tourism Organization also recently released data which indicated that Belize saw an increase in cruise tourism passengers of up to 36 percent.

According to the CTO that percentage represented a total of 527,037 passengers between January and June. CTO also revealed that Belize’s increase was the largest of any cruise destination in the Caribbean over the first six months of the year.
