Another earthquake rocks Mexico

By Marion Ali, Assistant Editor

Another earthquake has rocked Mexico. The magnitude 7.2 temblor jolted southeastern Mexico this evening, with the epicenter in the state of Oaxaca, according to the US Geological Survey.

Emergency authorities in the Oaxaca reported “only material damage and no loss of human life”.

In Mexico City, where more than 200 people died in an earthquake last September, buildings shook, but there were no immediate report of injuries.

Later, a magnitude 5.8 aftershock hit Oaxaca again.

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto announced that “protocols have been activated.”

Mexico’s Interior Minister, Alfonso Navarrete, said the quake caused some superficial damage to buildings in Oaxaca. The state’s governor said that about 100,000 people had lost power.
