Aaliyah Ysaguirre wins Queen of Bay 2017

Miss Stann Creek Aaliyah Ysaguirre returned the Queen of the Bay crown to the culture capital Dangriga for the third consecutive year, as she won the judges’ approval with her eloquence and poise, when the Queen of the Bay committee held 72nd annual pageant at Birds Isle last Saturday night, September 2.

Aaliyah won Miss Eloquence as she aced the question and answer segment, when challenged on whether the Belize Guatemala territorial dispute should be taken to the International Court of Justice. In her lucid and clearly enunciated argument, she noted that although many Belizeans do not fully understand this thorny issue, historically Guatemala was willing to cede the territory of British Honduras by the 1859 treaty; which has allowed Belize to become the only English speaking nation in Central America, and to go to the ICJ now would not change the course of justice.

Aaliyah’s prizes as Queen designate included a full scholarship to the University of Blize, sponsored by the Ministry of Education, $1,000 cash from the Office of the Prime Minister, and a Lenovo laptop and Hewlettt-Packard printer from FulTec Systems. She also received a $200 cash prize from Dr. Maxine Mckay, another $100 cash, jewellery from Medina’s Jewelry, and gift packages from COURTS, Travellers Liquors and Moya Shepherd & Company Ltd. She also gets a year’s membership to Neal & Gordon’s Gym with personal training instruction, and a year’s beauty treatments from Joyalel’s Beauty Salon.

Queen of the Bay Orange Walk Esmeralda Cal won first runner-up and captured the sashes for Miss Photogenic and Most Talented, as she entertained with her cultural presentation. She also tied with Queen of the Bay Santa Elena Amy Reyes for the Best Cultural costume. Her prizes include an AOC tablet from FulTec Systems, $100 cash prize, and gift packages Travellers Liquors and Moya Shepherd & Company Ltd and a gift basket from Cotton Cady Designs as well as a year’s membership to Neal & Gordon’s Gym and a chain from Miss Yolanda.

Queen of the Bay Toledo QuaydaArzuwon second runner-up and answered incisively when queried as to how Belize should address the problem of obesity among its citizens, ranking third worldwide according to WHO statistics, and the fattest in Central America. She recommended introducing a program of teaching our citizens people about healthy eating and living an active and healthy life-style. Her prizes included a Moov Fitness watch from FulTec Systemsand gift packages from Travellers Liquors and Moya Shepherd & Company Ltd.

AmyReyes won third runner-upwon the sash for Miss Charming; her prizes included a watch from Mr Francis Coye and gift packages from Travellers Liquors and Moya Shepherd & Company Ltd.

The other delegates all received gift bags from Miss Yolanda; they included Nalisha Acosta – Queen of the Bay Corozal,Lashania Crawford – Queen of the Bay Belize district,D’andre Martinez – Queen of the Bay Belmopan, and Alyssa Grant – Queen of the Bay San Ignacio.
In addition to the cultural costume, talent and question and answer segment, the Queen of the Bay Christalyn Castillo bade farewll via a recorded speech; she will transfer her crown, robe and sceptre to the Queen designate AaliyahYsaguirrepageant is not so much about female pulchritude, but rather about selecting a young lady who can serve as a role model for other young women, representing the Jewie with poise and elegance.

The panel of judges included Magistrate Sharon Fraser, Mrs. Alma Gonzalez, Mrs, Rashida Hoy, Miss Luanne Daniels, meteorologist Frank Tench, and fitness instructorsEd Williams and Clayton Grinage.
