BTL’s first entrepreneurial challenge

A and S Covers accessories store is the winner of the Belize Telemedia Limited’s (BTL) first ever entrepreneurial competition, held this week during the Global Entreprenuership Week.

Armando Perez, president in charge of design at the company, shared that winning the competition took a lot of confident selling their concept. 

The company envisioned a website where their customers can digitally design their accessories online before purchasing them. They made their concept relevant to BTL’s challenge by proposing that their customers have the option of paying for their accessories with BTL credit or through online banking. 

“We’re excited that we won and that I could see that a big corporation like BTL actually believes in the idea and believes that it could work. We are open for about a year now, but we are only on Facebook, we do not have a website were people could see their case before they buy it”, stated Perez. 
 
The competition was launched in August 2015, in conjunction with Beltraide’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Some 150 applicants stepped up to compete for $10,000 cash and $50,000 worth of network connectivity. 

BTL then selected eight participating teams, which were put through rigorous training, constant mentorship and exposure to felid work, promoting them to present realistic business plans. After presenting their first pitch on November 13 2015, three teams were selected for a final pitch in front of expert judges. 

Other businesses that emerged as winners were Team eBelize, who won the Viewer’s Choice Competition held on social media and were awarded 500 dollars cash.
