Over 500 citizens took part in Belize Cancer Society’s annual cancer walk on Saturday from Ladyville to Belize City, aimed to create awareness among our population of the ravages of cancer.
The majority of the participants this year were youths, while the rest were cancer survivors and/or families of cancer patients.
According to Laura Longsworth, president of the society, the funds raised in this year’s event will go towards establishing a cancer program to help with assisting children with cancer.
Longsworth expressed regret that currently Belize still does not have a program to help cancer patients access treatment and with assistance to help cover the costs.
