A man saw his head bashed in by a 2 by 4 stick after hurling an in-descent sexual comment to Ernest Meighan.
Meighan, a 57-year-old fisherman and machine repairman of Queen Charlotte Street in Belize City, appeared before Magistrate Herbert Panton in Court 3, were he pleaded not guilty to a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The court granted bail in the sum of $1,000 plus one surety of the same amount with strict instructions to stay away from the victim and not tamper with prosecution witnesses.
According to the Meighans, the incident started at their family home on Thursday, July 10th, when Walter Dawson asked Meighan and his brother for two dollars. When Meighan responded that he didn’t have any money at that moment, Dawson said, “I wah mek yu ––– k mi private.”
In an interview with Reporter, Meighan’s brother said Ernest then turned and told Dawson to wait there, and he would return shortly.
Ernest then left to pick up a 2 x 4 beam of wood. . He returned with the beam and hit Dawson over the head, rendering him unconscious.
Dawson regained consciousness five minutes later and was taken to the hospital for medical attention.
Dawson gave a different report to police, claiming that he was at Merna’s Bar, located on Queen Charlotte Street, when Meighan approached him and hit him over the head for no apparent reason.
Meighan was able to meet all court fees and is currently out on bail. He is due to return to court on September 3.
A witness saw his the assault with a 2 by 4 said he heard the victim make a vulgar sexual proposition to Ernest Meighan.
