Only weeks after surviving an attempt on his life, Jaime Chavarria, 26, was gunned down in Belize City this week.
According to police, Chavarria, a Belizean construction worker of 163 West Canal Street, Belize City, was walking through an unnamed alley in the Berkeley Street area around 7 Monday night when an unknown assailant approached him and opened fire.
He sustained agunshot wound to the head which proved fatal, and another to the back. His body was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital around 8:40 p.m. where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Superintendent of Police, Hilberto Romero, officer commanding the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), explained that although Chavarria has had several run-ins with the law, including being investigated for murder, the olice have no leads to indicate who shot him.
Apart from lacking a motive or witnesses, police have not recovered any expended shells from the scene to ascertain the caliber weapon used in Belize City’s latest murder.
Chavarria was shot in the chest outside his house on the night of March 1st. No one was ever detained or charged for that shooting.
