The Belize Police Department has cautioned citizens to be vigilant and remain aware of their surroundings while getting around the City during the holiday season, as thieves are opportunistic during this time of the year.

Senior Superintendent Edward Broaster, deputy OC Easter Division said while police have stepped up their efforts to curtail crime during the Christmas season, the Department is calling on the public to do their part in ensuring their own well-being during the holiday.

Broaster said robberies are most common during the Christmas season and he encouraged all citizens to take extra care in securing their valuable items both at home and while walking on the street. Broaster said it is very important to eliminate the opportunity for criminals lurking around waiting to prey on the unaware.

Broaster said the Department has stepped up their number of patrols as a part of the Anti-Crime Christmas campaign which, launched on November 15th. He said more police officers are noticeably on almost every corner and police response time has significantly improved creating a greater sense of security during the holiday season. Broaster said the police presence would be maintained all throughout the season.
