Online impersonator sought by police for forgery

Belmopan police have issued an all points bulletin for the arrest of a Dangriga man accused of forgery for allegedely impersonating the Governor General of Belize via a fake Facebook profile and email.

Belmopan police say that the suspect, 23-year-old Elston Earl Elijio, also pretends to be a doctor and calls himself Dr. Elijio. He is wanted by the Crimes Investigation Branch in Belmopan for questioning .

According to police, the Office of the Governor General is aware that someone created a fake email and Facebook account posing as the GG. He also created a letterhead, and was in possession of a scanned signature and a stamp, police say.

Police say the fraudster financially benefited by deceiving public and other offices with the fake accounts and signatures.
A government release informed that any page or email address purporting to be the Governor General is fake and unauthorized. Users are advised to disregard any such account.

Persons who are aware of Elijio’s whereabouts are asked to contact the nearest police station.
