GOB to pay CXC fees

The Government of Belize will pay the fees for high school students to sit the Caribbean Secondary Education exam, commonly called CXC exams, Prime Minister Dean Barrow announced in his New Year’s message.
Barrow stated that government would pay the examination fees for up to a maximum of six CXC for high school students sitting the exam.
“The students would come from all high schools and ITVETS, and would be inclusive of everyone qualifying on the basis of need,” Barrow explained.
Barrow prefaced the subsidy by underscoring his government’s goal of “casting an ever wider net of Government funded education so as to provide universality of access at the primary, secondary and Sixth Form Levels.”
Based on a similar principle, the Ministry of Education last year increased its subvention for needy students to $300.
