Gales Point policeman commits suicide

Police Constable #956 Jose Pam, who was attached to the Gales Point Village Police Sub-station was pronounced dead on arrival at the Southern Regional Hospital, around 10:30 p.m.,on Tuesday, April 23, police said.

Flags are flying at the various police station at half mast. The Police Department has announced that PC Jose Pam will be buried with full military honor.

According to Dangriga Police, they received information about an apparent suicide in Gales Point Village, around 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

When they arrived at the Police Sub-station, they found PC Pam on the second floor of the station’s living quarters.

He was lying face up in a pool of blood on the kitchen area with an apparent gunshot wound above the area of the right ear. The bullet exited through his left ear.

Pam’s .38 service revolver was lying on his right side. The weapon had five live rounds and one expended shell in its cylinder, police reported.

Simeona Pam, 30, the wife of PC Pam, told police that her husband left home around 11:00 a.m. and went into Gales Point Village. He returned home around 5:00 p.m. and was apparently under the influence of alcohol.

Police reported that Mrs. Pam told them that her husband had expressed frustration with his job.

She had gone into the bathroom to give their two-years-old son a bath, but about ten minutes later, while she was still inside the bathroom, she heard a loud bang.

When Mrs. Pam went outside to check, she saw her husband lying in a pool of blood.

His body was transported to the Southern Regional Hospital, where it was pronounced dead on arrival.
