Belize City police are advising vendors and business owners to be on the lookout for counterfeit currency after several fake bills were identified this week.
According to police, they first learned of the counterfeit notes last week when they were summoned to the Michael Finnegan Market on Collet Canal.
Several fruit vendors handed over seven $20 bills, six of which had the same serial number. The six had serial number DL287655 and the other had serial number DL183156.
In a separate report, police were also called to the Belize Bank main branch on Albert Street where a teller handed over a counterfeit $50 bill with serial number DJ792434.
Police were able to confirm all eight notes as counterfeit and have since advised all business establishments to be cautious when accepting payments. Police also advise all establishments to notify police as soon as possible, once they identify a counterfeit note.
